Parachute Jump Completed

Just to let you know I successfully completed the sponsored Tandem Sky Dive for the Steve Prescott Foundation on Wednesday 30th June at Langar Airfield, Nottingham.

What a fantastic experience. There were about 20 of us, all with different goals and ambitions.

Following registration and some ground training from the Red Devils we were kitted out in our sexy flying suits and introduced to our tandem partners.

Some photos and quick farewells to friends and family and off we went in the plane. The ascent didn't take long as we rose to 13000ft. Another kit check and we were ready.

A freefall of about 45 seconds seemed like an age as the wind noise and the inability to breath made it very scary! Then the parachute was opened and at last a calm and quiet and a chance to catch my breath and look at the countryside. My tandem partner Nathan asked me if I wanted some fun! and then did some moves and dips in mid air! It was a bit like being on one of those rides at Alton Towers but much, much better. All too soon we were coming into land- aiming for what seemed like a tiny drop zone. Then we landed and I had made it. What a great feeling of achievement - except I felt as sick as a dog. Hugs, kisses, congrats from Prekkie as he welcomed me back to earth.

As I was descending I was thinking of all the people who had sponsored me and feeling good in the knowledge that the money raised will go to Christies Hospital and Try assist- the Rugby Football League Benevolent fund.

The day was fantastic, the sun really hot, a barbeque and relax with new friends and total admiration for people like Tony Parkins who is an amputee and completed his first sky dive, his mum Sheila - who at 71 was completing her 3rd jump, to the other guys with disabilities who are a total inspiration to us all. To Paul Sculthorpe and Steve Hampson for supporting us all and especially to Martin Blondel for organising us. And finally to Steve Prescott and his lovely wife Linzi for being a true inspiration.

Many thanks to everyone who has pledged their support. I have pledges of about £1500 which is fantastic. I will be collecting the sponsor money in the next few weeks - so look out for me.
