The Warrington Wolves Supporters’ Trust and Squadbuilder sponsored the Under 19s Academy team to attended Challenge 4 Change Centre in Manchester recently http://challenge4change.org/. The players and coaching staff were put through a programme of several physical and mental team building exercises specially designed to test the group as a whole and concentrate them on a specific task.
C4C Project Director Chris Whitely a former RL professional and sports coach, motivated the players to train and develop their personal and team skills in a fun and innovative way.
After a strenuous session in the tyre pit the squad were set several high rope challenges and a 35 feet high 13 station aerial trek. Its fair to say some players found the exercises easier than others but the team work and encouragement was very evident as well as lots of enthusiasm and sheer physical strength.
It also allowed individuals to show their communication and leadership skills. Coaching staff got the opportunity to analyse the players perform challenging tasks and assess how efficiently they interact with one another.
Respect to Morgan Smith, Pat Moran, George Shaw, Alex Whalley, Dec Kay and Andy Philbin who all played in the Reserve team victory against Wigan only hours earlier at Victoria Park.
Phil Jones Head of Youth Development said, ‘It was a really positive session. We learned a few things about the
players and how they interact when faced with a new challenge.’
