WWST Board Member Pauline Nelson Heart and Soul Award

Congratulations to our own Pauline Nelson who was awarded a Heart and Soul Award at the recent Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation Beer Festival by the Foundation’s director Neil Kelly. Bennie Westwood popped in to congratulate Pauline and see the footprint award in the concourse of the South Stand.

The award which is supported by the Stuart Middleton Foundation is presented to people who have given their time and passion to the development of rugby league in Warrington.

Pauline is a Founder member of Warrington Wolves Supporters’ Trust (WWST) since its inception in 2002.  WWST is a Industrial Provident Society and volunteer organisation which was part of Supporters Direct.  Pauline is the Warrington Borough Council Representative on the board of WWST.  In that time Pauline has been an enthusiastic and respected board member, regularly attending the monthly meetings over the past 17 years.

The WWST supports the development, coaching and promotion of young players at all levels.  This includes aiding local junior sides as well as Wolfcubs, Origins and Academies right through to full professional Warrington Wolves players.  It strives to strengthen the bonds between Warrington Wolves and all the people of the Warrington area. The WWST has donated over £200k to support Youth Development in Warrington over the past 17 years. Projects are agreed with the Youth Development team. For example we have provided training equipment, financed training camps and provided scholarships for players.

Pauline has shown particular commitment in supporting the young people at the rugby club by using her vast experience and knowledge as a local councillor, school governor and through her work with local youth groups in the town.  Pauline was also instrumental in the appointment of the director Neil Kelly to the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation in 2007.

What makes Pauline’s commitments even more impressive is the fact that she is the main carer for her disabled housebound husband but she always has time for her beloved Warrington Wolves and the Supporters’ Trust.

Pauline goes above and beyond by helping at all the fund raising events like the annual Supporters Trust quiz night and the Summer Fans Day.  If it is someone’s birthday on the day she will arrange for a special cake to be made at her own expense and ensure the person has a day to remember.  She will always source several raffle prizes for our events personally asking local businesses to donate. Her infectious smile and kind and compassionate personality make her a very popular and valued member.

Pauline has also been actively involved for several players testimonials during the past 12 years including Lee Briers and Super Bennie Westwood.
