Chair’s Report Year 2021
Thank you all for your continuing support over the last 12 months. Our membership numbers remain stable at 107 members.
2021 was another year with the Covid-19 pandemic dominating and restricting our lives. Our meetings in March and May were held online but we were able to have our first in person meeting at Monks Sports Club in September and our November meeting at Padgate Campus.
There were 12 Academy graduates in the 2021 first team playing squad.
The Academy team were able to start training in March, but at Victoria Park, due to Covid restrictions nor permitting them to use Padgate with the first team squad. WWST facilitated the purchase of some gym equipment to support the Academy squad for their exclusive use. All Academy fixtures were held at Victoria Park under strict Covid rules with no spectators permitted until extremely late in the season.
The WWST Mission Statement document 2021 was prepared and presented to Club Chairman Stuart Middleton and CEO Karl Fitzpatrick. The quality glossy brochure set out our objectives. One of the initiatives accepted by the club in June is the specially designed ‘Wire’ Academy graduate logo which every first team player now proudly displays on the match day shirt. We are extremely proud that are Home grown players have this special acknowledgement. Other proposals include sourcing sponsors for the Academy squad, an increase in membership for Squadbuilder members, continued support for our community clubs and the creation of the ‘100’ Club. A new Squadbuilder website was commissioned for the start of 2022.
The inaugural Pauline Nelson Memorial Trophy was presented to the Academy Player of the Year James Hartill in September at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
The WWST Fans for Foodbanks initiative to support the local community. in conjunction with the Wolves Charitable Foundation and the club was postponed until 2022. Warrington Borough Council have donated six bins. Dave Ditchfield designed the signage for the bins ready for the launch.
In November we were delighted to welcome one of our own hometown, homegrown past players Tyrone McCarthy back to club as Scholarship coach and sponsor his new laptop and software program. Tyrone and new Head Analyst Ste Mills showed us the club’s new Nacsport system analysis package for reviewing player performance.
In December Academy coach Paul Anderson who we have sponsored during his tenure, announced he was leaving his post to accept a full-time role with the RFL as England Academy coach.
